The aim of blepharoplasty (aesthetic eyelid surgery) is to halt signs of ageing around the eyes and to replace a tired look with one that is rested and more relaxed. This procedure can be applied to the upper or lower eyelids.
Upper eyelids sag with time, lending a sad air to the face. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty involves the removal of excess fat, skin or muscle. At times, fat builds up around the eye with age and in these cases we perform, in essence, lipostructure of the upper eyelid. The result: a more open look, without affecting the function of the eyelids.
As the years pass, our lower lids tend to become clearer and skin texture is more refined, fine lines appear and pockets (“bags”) can form under the eyes. Gradually, rings grow around the pockets. Blepharoplasty of the lower lids involves both the surgical removal of the hernias of fat responsible for the pockets and tightening of the skin in this area which also deals with the fine lines.
These procedures, required by both men and women, are regularly performed on patients who are 40 and over. But they can also be performed much earlier when the problems are hereditary, especially when the bags under the eyes appear in young people.
As appropriate, blepharoplasty can be performed alone or in conjunction with another aesthetic surgical procedure, for example a brow lift and injections. But it must not be forgotten that other, non-surgical, treatments also exist to rejuvenate one’s look and can avoid the need for surgery.
At your first consultation, we can assess your wishes and formulate a personalized solution which best meets your desired objectives.
